Group Meetings
The Welcome Experience-- 9/16/10
-Today launched the beginning of our monthly meetings. What a wonderful experience! The girls had a wonderful time. We spent time getting to know one another and having fun. The girls were able to share a little bit about themselves and get to know Heaven's Gyrlz (HG) staff and volunteers. What an awesome day. Thanks to all the volunteers and staff. Without you this wouldn't have been possible.
Octoberween Fun- 10/30/10
- What an AWESOME time we had. We spent time discussing safety and what it means to be safe over Halloween. The girls really enjoyed making butterfly masks. Our volunteers enjoyed it too!
Because we are THANKFUL- 11/20/10 -Our November meeting was truly an experience that will never be forgotten. The girls shared all the things they were THANKFUL for. Ms. Tasha and Ms. Nisha shared the history of Thanksgiving and provided a great Just 4 Fun activity.
The real meaning of CHRISTmas! - 12/18/10
-Today was a great day! We discussed the true meaning of CHRISTmas. The girls explained what Christmas meant to them and what some of their family traditions were. We ended the meeting making ornaments to take home.
January 15, 2011
-What an awsome time we had reflecting ove rthe holidays and the time we shared with family and friends. Our Topic for the month was TRUST. We discussed what it means to trust and why it's important. We also had an open discussion about who we should trust. We ended the meeting with each girl selecting one African American person to discuss at our February meeting.
February 19, 2011
-So, we thought we knew what it was like to have Feelings. Boy did Ms. Danielle prove us wrong. We learned so much about all the different types of feelings. Everyone has feelings and it doesnt start and end with happy or sad. Feelings are so important in our day to day lives. The girls learned that it is okay to feel whatever it is they may feel and the importance of being honest about how you feel. By the way, the Black History Month presentations were AWESOME. HG's ROCK!!!!!
March 2011
-This was a meeting for reflection. We discussed all our previous topics and what they meant in our everyday lives. The girls turned in their Red Wheel orders and boy did they have lots! For fun we made friendship bracelets and spent time chatting. Catching up is always fun.
April 19, 2011
- Our topic this month was Options. We discussed the various options and choices that we make each day. We reminded each other how important it is to make proper choices and be willoing to stand up for whats right. Great discussion. Group leaders gained a lot of insight on what our girls go through everyday.
May 30, 2011 HG skating at Carousel
-What an awesome time we had skating. I got a TRUE workout. I didnt know I could enjoy myself that much. Special thanks to all the families that came out and those HG members that brought a friend. We appreciate you all.
July 16, 2011 Bullying
-Today we discussed bullying. I was shocked at the various waysboth children and adults are bullied. Our guest speaker was Mrs. Kayla Grayson-Yizar. Her presentation was AWESOME! Bottom line: don't be a bully, don't get bullied, and know what to do when bullied! Thanks Ms. Kayla.
